Article Marketing: the BETTER Offpage SEO Solution

by alex on Jul 29th in Writing And Speaking

Dina Giolitto asked:

Been reading up on SEO? If so, you know that there are one of two major strategies for bumping up your website on the search engines. One is onpage optimization, which involves plumping up your website’s headlines, subheads, alt image tags and content with popular keywords. The other is offpage optimization, which, although not talked about nearly as much, will drastically improve your rank if done the right way.

Offpage SEO works like this:

To improve your SEO rank and increase traffic to your site, you need to get more popular websites to link to you. This is called inbound linking.

Websites are ranked 1 to 10 for Page Rank; one being the least popular and 10 being the most popular. If you’re just starting out, you’re probably a 1 or a 2, but you want to be at least a 6 and who knows… maybe one day a “perfect 10!”

Just like real-life office hobnobbers, your little website is going to have to do some shmoozing with those big league websites to get noticed. How can you give your site some help? Just as you feared: you must first research whose site is ranking higher than you are for your selected keywords. Then you must email them and ask if they’ll place your website link on their site.

Now when you ask people with highly visible websites if they can add your URL to their list, what do you think they typically say? “Sure, for a small fee…” (But more likely a not-so-small fee). So now we’re talking about money, and nobody wants to lay out cash, especially if they’re just starting out.

For this reason, you may be interested to learn: there’s a new wave in offpage optimization that does not involve researching other people’s websites OR emailing people OR negotiating link placement fees.

It’s Article Marketing.

Simply stated, Article Marketing is distributing keyword-rich articles that include your name, professional author bio and URL link to other websites that display the articles as content. Then, publishers come by and pick up that content to place on THEIR websites.

Now, let that sink in for a moment and then remember the goal of offpage optimization: to get better ranking sites to link back to your URL. Article marketing covers this easily. How so?

As an article marketer, you can distribute hundreds of keyword-loaded articles to top ranking article content sites like EzineArticles.com. EACH TIME you post an article on a site like this, your article gets indexed in their content BY KEYWORD and your URL is listed along with it. That’s with EVERY article you write.

It’s also worth noting, that when you choose to showcase your work on a highly reputable, top ranking site like EzineArticles.com, you get the added advantage of their expertly designed and fully search engine optimized website template to help push you higher on the search engines.

A third point: EzineArticles.com is the number one choice for real live internet marketers to post their articles, pick up other authors’ articles to use in their emailed ezines, and generally affilate with for all things article marketing. So if you wanted to start getting your name out there and known by all the right people, posting your expert articles on EzineArticles.com might be a pretty good way to do it.

Still not convinced that article marketing with a top ranking site is an incredible offpage optimization tool for your site? Submit four articles and then do a Google search on your name. Tell me what comes up. Then… when you’re ready to take full advantage of this incredible opportunity: create a full-scale article marketing campaign that includes keywords and highly targeted copy… submit to the highest ranking article distribution sites… and watch your website rocket up the ranks!

Looking for an SEO program to monitor my websites?

by alex on Dec 23rd in Software

Burton G asked:

looking for a piece of software (free or purchase) to analyze and report on about 100 company web sites. (we have a number of individual programs that do these items, but its tedious doing all the work of entering domain names and getting reports)

software would:

1. most important, would allow us to enter domain names to be analyzed in a list, and then get reports on some frequency, such as bi weekly or monthly. would be nice if it emailed reports all in one package, or even individually, and or held them for us to vide and/or print
2. keyword rankings in specified search engines
3. Missing titles, desc. metatags, keywords, alt tags
4. text relevancy between text on page and desc metatags and keywords and title
5. report on broken links
6. #links, outgoing, internal, and backlinks if possible (or as shown by google)
7. page rank
8. if possible, a “score” for the site. this would likely just be indicative of the optimization and visibility for the site, but would help isolate issues and/or sites needing work.
9. indexed page count on google

Any advice on a program would be greatly appreciated!

domain redirect question?

by alex on Sep 11th in 259

John L asked:

My website is http://www.familycoats.com, that points to http://www.cafepress.com/familycoats

The reason I got the domain is so that people could remember it easier because it is shorter.

I paid somebody for SEO advice, and they told me that this is a bad thing because search engines will consider it as multiple content.

Is this true? Is there anyway I can change this?

I want to keep the domain name, but I don’t want my rankings to suffer. As of now, my rankings are really bad.

Internet Marketing and SEO

by alex on Jul 25th in Internet And Businesses Online

Dennis Pang asked:

What is Internet Marketing?

Internet (or online or web) marketing broadly refers to the marketing of companies, brands, products or services using the Internet. The rapid and dynamic growth of the Internet has created tremendous global marketing opportunities for businesses to reach new customers and communicate with them in ways they couldn’t before. Regardless of the industry, many companies have realized its potential and importance, and are now looking at web marketing as a vital part of their overall marketing mix.

Internet marketing can scale many areas, and can include such things like Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media Marketing (SMM), Online Reputation Management (ORM), and E-mail Marketing. This article will focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Link Building.

Search Engine Optimization and Link Building

Search engine optimization is one of the most crucial components of Internet marketing, especially for growing small businesses. What good is having a beautiful website if your customers and stakeholders cannot find you in search engines? The goal of SEO is to increase the volume of targeted traffic to a website through search engines. A good SEO strategy involves two basic elements: optimizing the website content and link building. They are both equally important, however in this article we will discuss link building.

Link building often begins once a website is completed, and once its web content has been optimized. In a nutshell, optimizing web content involves having a website with a search engine friendly architecture and structure (a good web developer would know how to do this), with content that is strategically written with SEO in mind (a good copywriter would know how to do this). Your next step is the off page activity referred to as ‘link building’. You can think of link building as a popularity contest. The goal is to find as many quality, relevant websites to point to your website. The more you get, the more link popular your site becomes. And generally, the more popular your site becomes, the more search engines begin to notice it. In fact, Google has their own 10-point ranking system (also known as PageRank) of websites based on links. All websites start from 0 on the scale, and a site with many people linking to it, such as Facebook, would be a 10. Here is a link to a free tool which allows you to lookup any website’s Google PageRank: http://www.page-rank-lookup.com

There are many different ways to build links. There are countless numbers of directory and search engines sites for businesses, web, press releases, articles, blogs, and videos. And there are also social sites which include social networking (Twitter.com) and bookmarking sites (Digg.com), and blogs. The more content you have to share on such sites, the better it is for your SEO campaign.

Submissions to directories can often take some time (depending on the directory). In general with most directories, there are three ways to get links: free submission, paid submission, or reciprocal links or link exchanges (ie. I’ll link to you if you link to me). Link building through social channels can occur much faster because you can actually manage the content and submit it yourself.

Link Building Best Practices

Link building has several obvious advantages. As mentioned above, it is a way to increase the volume and also the quality of traffic coming to a website. Moreover, it helps by increasing the visibility of a website by putting it in front of more sets of eyes, with more people being able to find a website through more web channels.

There are some general best practice rules to link building though. One of them is avoiding building links to irrelevant websites. For instance, if you are in the furniture business, do not submit your link to a health website directory. Another good rule is to be aware of the PageRank of the site you are submitting your website to. Websites with higher PageRanks can give you more link popularity than websites with lower PageRanks. In the end, you can think of it all as being a popularity contest, in which the traditional rules of a popularity contest still apply.

SEO, Links & Google?

by alex on Jul 17th in Pointers

simonc asked:

I have a personal blog website, the address is http://minibus.wordpress.com

I have purchased a domain name – http://www.minibus-blog.co.uk which I have pointed to the blog site.

My first question is this: if I start building links to http://www.minibus-blog.co.uk will they count toward Google Page Rank and my position in the search engines (bearing in mind this is only a redirected domain name to the wordpress.com address)?

Or do I need to get all the links straight to the wordpress.com address?

My mission is to get this blog on page one for minibus related keyphrases, it is just a sad personal quest (don’t ask!) – can anyone give me some tips for doing this, I am familiar with a lot of SEO techniques, but all input is appreciated!
